1-The increasingly profitable hotel sector

Hotels remain the preferred option for most tourists, although apartment rentals are gaining ground.

Overnight stays in hotels have increased by 3.8% compared to the first half of 2016 and billing has grown by 6.1%, with an average of € 98.5 per day / person according to the INE.

2-The vacation rental gaining ground

This 2017 the rental of apartments for tourists has grown by 23.2% compared to 2016 according to the INE. Data that are affecting the hotel sector and, above all, concern about false offers or scams that some tourists have encountered.

Prices have also risen in this sector by 11% more assuming an average price of € 28.8 per day / person. The exceptional case is Ibiza, where the madness of prices in tourist accommodation has no limits; € 700 / day for an apartment or € 450 for a bed a night are frequent figures in the advertisements that we find this summer. We are facing an uncontrolled inflation that affects the residents of Ibiza that it is increasingly difficult for them to maintain their standard of living on the island. 3-Preferred destination of international tourists

We have experienced an 11% growth in foreign tourists compared to the same period in 2016. The United Kingdom and Germany lead the ranking, concentrating 47% of the international tourist mass, which represents 8.1 million visitors. Followed by the Nordic countries and North America according to the latest Exceltur report.

Although international tourists have reduced their average stay, their average daily spending has increased, which consolidates it as one of the most profitable customer segments.

4-Good air connections

Spain is the 4th largest airspace in Europe by volume with more than 2 million annual flights. Between January and August 2017, Spain has increased air traffic by 7% according to AENA, which is a clear advantage over the 4.1% that Europe has grown in general.

Among the 12 most visited destinations in Europe are 5 Spanish regions: Catalonia, Valencia, the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands and Andalusia at the top of the list.

6-Food and shopping

Traditional Mediterranean cuisine is one of the best valued in the world and that is noticed by restaurants during the summer season. One of the most valued points of foreign tourists is good Spanish food.

Spain is not a shopping destination, but we are recovering positions against European capitals such as London, Munich and Paris. Prices have increased by 2% compared to 2016, which presents an average ticket of € 500 per visitor in shops. This also does not please local residents who complain about the increase in prices in bars, restaurants and shops in front of the entrance of tourists.
