World's largest banks by assets 2017

banks

With a value of 3 trillion euros, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) leads the ranking of the largest banks in the world in 2017 by assets, followed by Fannie Mae occupying the second position, and finally, the Construction Bank China closes the podium with 2 billion euros.

In general terms, we can see that the pressure of the Asian countries predominate over the rest, leaving the American giant and European countries in the background.

Despite the fact that in the ranking of the world's largest banks by market capitalization, ICBC has lost the first place in favor of the Americans JP Morgan and Wells Fargo, in the list ordered according to the volume of assets, the ICBC bank continues to predominate .

It is curious how the mortgage banks Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are in the first positions of this ranking, while they do not even appear among the top 100 banks by market capitalization. This is because both banks are mortgages and therefore their assets reflect a large volume of mortgages, which are large compared to other types of loans.

The Spanish representation is made up of Santander bank, which is ranked number 22 (while by market capitalization it is 13) with 1.34 trillion euros, BBVA in position 46 with 732 billion euros and Caixabank, in position 85 with a total value of its assets of 348 billion euros.

From the Latin American area we can find banks only from Brazil, Banco do Brasil, Itau Banco and Banco Bradesco, in positions 75, 78 and 87, respectively.
