Process

economic-dictionary

A process is a sequence of actions that are carried out to achieve a certain purpose. It is a concept applicable to many areas, to the company, to chemistry, to computer science, to biology, to chemistry, among others.

A process is then, in general, a series of operations carried out in a specific order and with a goal.

It should be noted that we have referred to a process as a product of human action. However, there are also those natural processes that are made up of successive phenomena where the hand of humans does not intervene. We refer, for example, to when sea water condenses, turning into clouds that will later cause rain.

Processes in the economy

In microeconomics, or in the business sphere, reference can be made to the production process by which raw materials are transformed into intermediate goods or final products.

Likewise, the supply chain is a process, which ranges from when the company supplies supplies until the merchandise reaches the consumer. This, not before perhaps having gone through a wholesaler and / or a retailer.

Another application of the term process occurs in the area of human resources, in personnel selection processes. These can start from a call (massive or internal) to occupy a certain job position, and even to the hiring of the person considered suitable.

In the macroeconomic sphere, one can speak of an inflation process when there is an upward trend in prices. Likewise, we can refer to the economic cycle as a process with periods of recession and periods of expansion of the gross domestic product (GDP).

Other types of processes

Outside of the economic and business we have other types of processes such as the following:

  • Legal processes: It is the set of actions that are carried out before the judicial authority to resolve a case (for example, a lawsuit for breach of a contract) and carry out the mandate of the law (through a sanction that can be a fine or jail time).
  • Biological processes: They are the processes that living beings go through where chemical reactions intervene. Example: The reproduction and transmission of a virus.
  • Computer processes: This is the start-up of a program, by which a microprocessor carries out certain instructions to reach a final state. If we open the task manager on our computer or laptop, we can observe all the processes that are under development.
  • Electoral process: In the political sphere, this is the process by which elections are held in a country, whether general or local. This usually begins months before the day of the voting when the political parties begin to unfold their campaign.
