Educative technology

economic-dictionary

Educational technology is the set of techniques and procedures used to improve communication and knowledge transfer.

Likewise, educational technology can be defined as the use of new technologies to promote innovation in the educational area.

Benefits of educational technology

Educators and students are two sides of the same coin. Therefore, the technologies used benefit both groups. On the one hand, teachers use them to facilitate the way in which they reinforce the knowledge and skills of their pupils. They also help stimulate and enrich student learning. On the other hand, these tools allow students to improve their experience and facilitate the absorption of knowledge.

Other benefits that can be listed are the following:

  • Increased collaboration: On the one hand, local or cloud computing systems help make remediation easier. This being one of the main drawbacks in educators' time management. On the other hand, these services allow students to work as a team without the need to be in person.
  • Cost savings: Therefore, in the long term, new technologies tend to lower the cost of educational materials. For example, the use of the cloud for data storage, even improving security. Likewise, students' backpack is lightened by requiring fewer instruments.
  • Better and wider content dissemination: This allows having content available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For example, with prerecorded classes.
  • Personalized education: With more availability, specific plans can be developed by students. In this sense, young people focus on their interests and the standardization of the educational system is reduced. In addition, technology allows evaluating students' progress and continuing to identify their abilities.
  • More attention: The use of games or other dynamic content keeps students focused on their activities. Likewise, it promotes interaction between a greater number of people, reducing physical limitations. Likewise, this allows teachers to have better control of the classroom and include parents in the educational process of their children.

Problems to be solved generated by educational technology

Some of the problems that need to be addressed due to the use of new technology in education are the following:

  • Adaptability: Technological change tends to be faster than the capacity that the area can adapt. Mainly, it forces adults to make a significant training effort. Likewise, tests are needed to evaluate their operation without damaging the structure of the institutions and the laws that govern them.
  • False information: The large amount of information available represents a challenge for students, especially when it comes to separating the true from the false. Being paradoxical that with more information, misinformation also increases.
  • Lag of education systems: The quality gap between education systems with the least compared to those with the greatest resources is widening. Therefore, in relative terms, those with fewer resources are less effective, at least in the short term.
