For another year we compiled a list of the most important banks worldwide. The generalized rise in the stock markets has led to the stock market capital of the 100 largest banks in the world being higher than the previous year, with a total of 5.1 trillion euros, which is equivalent to the GDP of Spain, Mexico, Brazil and Russia together.

On the other hand, the strength of the dollar over the last year has placed US banks higher in the table. Being the first two world banks in the North American country.

JP Morgan rises as the most important bank in the world due to its market capitalization, with a value of 279 billion euros, equivalent to the GDP of Chile. Wells Fargo loses the gold medal and ranks second this year. The podium is closed by the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), which in 2015 had ranked as the largest in the world. On the other hand, in the list of the largest banks in the world by assets of 2017, ICBC bank continues to occupy the first position.

The top ten of world banks according to their origin has the same composition as last year, with 4 American banks, four Chinese, one from the United Kingdom and one Australian.

The first Spanish bank and the second largest European bank in the world is Banco Santander, with a market capitalization of 82 billion euros. Which makes him go up 3 places compared to last year. The other large Spanish bank is ranked 34, one less than the previous year, with a market cap of 45.5 billion euros.

From the Latin American area we find 4 Brazilian banks in the table, Itau, Banco Bradesco, Banco Santander Brasil and Banco do Brasil, in positions 18, 31, 60 and 63 respectively. This year, for the first time, the Mexican bank Banorte enters the ranking of the largest.
